This recipe will definitely stink up your kitchen to no end but that scent is what you need to attract the Rainbow Trout. Just think about how bad it must smell in the factory where they make Berkley Powerbait, but that trout bait will bring a lot of fish home with you.

Many Rainbow Trout lures use bright colors to attract the fish, and so this recipe will also include some food coloring to entice the Rainbow Trout’s eyes as well as its nose.

Here is another great trout bait recipe that will bring in the lunkers the next time you are trout fishing.

Peanut Butter and Sardines Trout Dough Bait
1/2 cup corn meal

1/2 cup flour

1/4 cup clear corn syrup

1 cup water

2 tablespoons Peanut butter

1/4 cup Marshmallow Fluff

1 3.75 ounce can sardines

Cotton balls

In a medium sauce pan combine water, corn syrup, food coloring, and peanut butter and bring to a low boil over medium heat while stirring occasionally. Turn heat to low and mix corn meal and flour in a bowl. Slowly add to the liquid while stirring until all of the flour and corn meal mixture is worked in. Continue stirring over low heat until the mixture becomes thick and most of the water has cooked off. Remove from burner and mix in pureed sardines and Marshmallow Fluff until evenly distributed throughout the mixture. After mixture has cooled, stir in cotton balls which will help to keep the bait sticking together.

Fish these the same way you fish any other homemade trout bait. Tie on a treble hook and add one of these dough balls. Use a bobber and cast the trout fishing bait into deep pools in the trout stream.
