How to Make Homemade Trout Dough Bait

How to Make Homemade Trout Dough Bait
Making your own homemade trout dough bait can be one of the best trout lures out there. Many fishermen enjoy trout fishing with ultralight tackle using spinners or jigs but simple trout bait can work wonders.

Some anglers choose to buy trout bait from a bait shop, but they are missing out on the enjoyment that can be had by making your own homemade trout dough bait.

Here is a great trout bait recipe that will drive rainbows crazy.

Cheesy Garlic Trout Dough Bait
2 cups water
1 cup flour
1 cup cornmeal
½ cup sugar
1 tablespoon garlic powder
¼ pound Velveeta cheese

Place the cheese in a small microwave safe bowl and microwave until melted.

Mix water, melted cheese, flour, cornmeal, sugar, and garlic powder together in a large mixing bowl until well blended and a heavy dough is formed.

Fill a large stock pot with water and bring to a rapid boil. While waiting for the water to boil, pinch off enough of the dough to form a small ball and roll it until it forms a ball. Form all of the dough into balls. Drop in a few dough balls into the water at a time. Cook the balls in the boiling water for 1-2 minutes and then place on paper towels to dry off the excess water.

Trout will go nuts over the cheese and garlic in this dough bait. Tie on a treble hook and add one of these dough balls. Use a bobber and cast the trout fishing bait into deep pools in the trout stream. Making your own homemade trout dough bait is a great way to catch rainbow trout and it’s one of most fun rainbow trout lures available.

  4. Recipe calls for way too much water, I tried this using the exact measurements and came out incredibly wet and sticky. I'd say do as says, but add water incredibly slowly to your dough and only about 1/2 cup.
